SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 42

Recognizing the public service of the Honorable Tony E. Whitlow.

Whereas, The Honorable Tony E. Whitlow was born May 9, 1933, the son of N. Curtis and Elizabeth (Bailey) Whitlow; and
Whereas, The Honorable Tony E. Whitlow received his education from the West Virginia Business College; and
Whereas, The public service of the Honorable Tony E. Whitlow began with his election to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1970. He was reelected in 1972, 1976, 1980 and 1982; and
Whereas, The Honorable Tony E. Whitlow was elected to the West Virginia Senate from the tenth senatorial district in 1984 and reelected in 1988 and 1992; and
Whereas, During his tenure in the Senate, the Honorable Tony E. Whitlow served with dedication and distinction as chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee; as vice chairman of the Senate Natural Resources Committee; and as a member of the Senate Committees on Energy, Industry and Mining; Finance; Interstate Cooperation; Transportation; Government Organization; and the Forest Management Review Commission. He also served as President
pro Tempore of the Senate during the sixty-eighth and sixty-ninth Legislatures; and
Whereas, The dedication, wisdom and legislative expertise of the Honorable Tony E. Whitlow is evidenced by a myriad of worthwhile enactments, conceived and executed by him for the betterment of the citizens of the State of West Virginia; and
Whereas, The Honorable Tony E. Whitlow has decided not to seek reelection to the Senate from the tenth senatorial district in 1996. He brings to an end twenty-four years of devoted public service to the citizens of the State of West Virginia and will be missed by his fellow colleagues in the Senate; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate of West Virginia hereby extends its heartfelt appreciation and best wishes to the Honorable Tony E. Whitlow; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Tony E. Whitlow.
